-- WNBA and Ticketmaster Team Up to Offer Fans Opportunity to
See Their Favorite Teams and the League’s Brightest Stars --
NEW YORK (April 2, 2008) – Beginning on Thursday, April 10, WNBA fans will have their first opportunity to purchase individual game tickets for the League’s 2008 season.
The WNBA and its 14 member teams are partnering with Ticketmaster in this leaguewide initiative, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. local time in each market.
Fans may obtain single-game tickets by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX or by visiting either ticketmaster.com or wnba.com/tickets. Tickets also will be available for purchase at team box offices, Ticketmaster outlets and at the NBA Store in New York.
The WNBA will tip off its 12th season of play on Saturday, May 17, led by Lisa Leslie’s much-anticipated return to the court when the Los Angeles Sparks take on Diana Taurasi and the defending champion Phoenix Mercury. Highlighting the 2008 season will be the deepest crop of rookie talent in league history and a number of all-stars taking to the court for new clubs including, All-Decade Team member Sheryl Swoopes, now of the Seattle Storm and Katie Douglas, who returns to her home state of Indiana and the Fever.
All WNBA teams will be hosting specially themed games including “Dads and Daughters Day,” “Kids Day" and “Camp Day,” as well as a variety of locally themed events.
The on-sale date is scheduled for the day following the WNBA Draft, which will be conducted in Tampa, Fla. on April 9 and televised live on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. ET.
