WNBA Pre-Draft Camp Will Feature 42 Top Prospects on April 3
NEW YORK, March 30 - Forty-two of the nationís top college seniors from around the world will gather in Boston next week to take part in the 2006 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp. The League will host its annual Pre-Draft Camp at Emmanuel College on Monday, April 3, in advance of the 2006 WNBA Draft, which also will take place in Boston on April 5.
The camp offers team officials the opportunity to evaluate the skills of some of the top, draft-eligible players from the collegiate ranks in advance of the Draft.
Monday's on-court sessions are open to the media, with players, as well as WNBA coaches and general managers available from 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. ET. Additional interviews may be scheduled upon request. Media members should call (212-407-8022) or e-mail requests to Jay Moore (firstname.lastname@example.org).
League-appointed personnel will conduct player physical examinations on Sunday, April 2, with on-court sessions scheduled for the following day.
Below is the current list of invitees for
the 2006 WNBA Pre-Draft Camp.
WNBA officials announced in February the move of two of its premier events to Boston as part of a week-long celebration of women's basketball emanating from that city. Over the next week, Boston also will host the NCAA Women's Division 1 Final Four, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's annual convention and a training and evaluation session being conducted by the USA Basketball Women's Senior National Team.
The move to Boston
represents a departure from previous years when the WNBA Draft was held at NBA
TV studios in New Jersey. Prior Pre-Draft Camps also were conducted in the New
York area and, for a time, in Chicago.
In addition, WNBA.com will cover all three rounds, providing complete analysis and comprehensive information on all 14 teams' selections.
The WNBA's 10th anniversary season tips off on Saturday, May 20 and will include ABC's national telecast from Sacramento where the defending WNBA Champion Monarchs will commemorate their 2005 WNBA title by raising their championship banner. The Monarchs will then square off against All-Star guard Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury at ARCO Arena beginning at 4 p.m. EDT. Opening day also includes the inaugural game of the league's 14th franchise, the Chicago Sky, as it visits the Charlotte Sting.
