HOUSTON – The Houston Comets announced today the signing of forward Tracy Reid to a free agent contract. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“We are excited about adding a former WNBA Rookie of the Year,” said Comets Head Coach and General Manager Van Chancellor. “Tracy is an athletic player who will be a great addition to our team.”
Reid (5-11, North Carolina ‘98) holds career averages of 7.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 116 games with the Charlotte Sting (69), Miami Sol (21) and Phoenix Mercury (26). Selected by Charlotte in the first round (7th overall) of the 1998 WNBA Draft, Reid went on to capture the 1998 WNBA Rookie of the Year after finishing the season ranked 11th in the WNBA in scoring (13.8) and 16th in rebounding (5.2). Reid played three seasons with the Sting before moving on to Miami in a trade for Shanita Owens on November 3, 2000. After one season in Miami, she was traded by the Sol along with the 13th overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft to Phoenix for Pollyanna Johns Kimbrough and the 15th pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft on March 4, 2002.
As a collegian, Reid finished her career at North Carolina ranked fourth all-time in the ACC in points (2,200), eighth in rebounds (1,065) and ninth in scoring average (18.2 points per game). She also finished third in voting for Naismith Player of the Year as a senior in 1998.
