NEW YORK, July 10 -- WNBA Eastern and Western Conference coaches have selected the 12 players who will participate as reserves in the 2002 WNBA All-Star Game. The pool of talent features five first-time All-Stars, including guard Marie Ferdinand and forward Adrienne Goodson of the Utah Starzz in the West, and Miami forward Sheri Sam, Cleveland Rockers forward Penny Taylor and Charlotte Sting center Tammy Sutton-Brown in the East.

The 2002 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Washington Mystics and the District of Columbia on Monday, July 15, at the MCI Center. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Ferdinand and Goodson will be joined on the Western Conference squad by guard Tamecka Dixon and forward Mwadi Mabika of the Los Angeles Sparks, guard Katie Smith of the Minnesota Lynx and center Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm.

In addition to Sam, Taylor and Sutton-Brown, the East squad will feature guard Shannon Johnson and forward Nykesha Sales of the Orlando Miracle and guard Andrea Stinson of the Sting.

Starters for the game were determined by fan votes cast in the WNBA All-Star Balloting Program Presented by Yahoo!® Sports. The West starting lineup features guard Sheryl Swoopes and forward Tina Thompson from the Houston Comets, guard Sue Bird from the Storm, guard Ticha Penicheiro from the Sacramento Monarchs and center Lisa Leslie from the Sparks.

The Eastern Conference starters include forward Chamique Holdsclaw from the Washington Mystics, forward Tamika Catchings from the Indiana Fever, guard Dawn Staley from the Sting and guard Teresa Weatherspoon and center Tari Phillips from the New York Liberty.
