
NEW YORK, July 14, 2007 – San Antonio Silver Stars forward Sophia Young has been named as a replacement player for the 2007 WNBA All-Star Game presented by Discover Card it was announced today by WNBA President Donna Orender.
Young, who will be playing in her second All-Star Game in as many years, will fill the spot on the Western Conference roster vacated by Rebekkah Brunson of the Sacramento Monarchs. Brunson is sidelined by a left calf injury suffered during Thursday night’s game against the Connecticut Sun.
Brunson, a forward who was selected to the All-Star Game for the first time, will be on the bench in street clothes and will not play.
In other All-Star news, Jenny Boucek, head coach of the Western Conference All-Stars, has named reserve forward Tina Thompson of the Houston Comets as the player who will replace Sue Bird in the starting lineup. Bird, the leader among fan voting for the All-Star Game, is sidelined after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on July 6.
