Tari Phillips Answer Back

Ever wonder what it's like to play in the WNBA All-Star Game? What players do during All-Star weekend? How do you prepare for Monday's game? Which outfits for which events? Here's your chance to "Ask the All-Stars".

New York Liberty All-Star center Tari Phillips, answered your questions live from Washington D.C. just hours before the tip of the fourth annual WNBA All-Star Game!

Q: Hi Tari. Good Luck tonight in the All-Star game. How do you think the East will do against a strong West team?
Liz

Phillips: I think the East will do very well tonight if we come out aggressively, take it to them, out rebound them and play really good defense. That's the way that well do well tonight.

Q: Hey Tari, Can you do me a favor in the game and give me a SLAM DUNK for NY? Thanx!
Emily

Phillips: I will do my darndest, I will do my best to go out there and get one, especially if my legs feel real good. I've been battling with a couple of injuries, but I feel like I'm getting back into the swing of things. If the lord opens up a path to the basket, then I'm going for it!

Q: Tari, Do you have a good luck charm or do you do something before a game for good luck. Thanks P.S You & your team are playing great I think this year if you have it in you is to win the championship for New York.
Jill

Phillips: Usually I call my family if we're not together. My sisters are here with me this weekend. We get together for a little support group and we have prayer. We get together and sing a little bit, then I head out to the court. My mom, my dad, my sisters, my family and I just get together and have fun.

Q: Hi Tari, Congrats on making the All-Star Team again! With the Liberty being a bit up and down this season, what is it going to take from each person (coaches included) individually, and as a team to finish the season on an upswing and to have a STRONG post season? I want the Liberty to win the championship (for yourselves) so badly, it's bananas!!! I mean, y'all deserve it. But as you know deserving something is a totally different world from EARNING something. So you and the rest of the squad go out there and work your buns off and earn that sucka!! ;o) A True Diehard to the end! One Love Sis.

Phillips: If we put in another performance like we had on Saturday and continue to build from that, I think we will have a great ending to this year's season. We came here to Washington, played very well together, and took it to the Mystics early. We slacked up a little bit in the second half, but then we regrouped and brought it back together again. If we continue to do that, we'll finish up strong.

Q: Hey Tari, I am a male fan of the Liberty (and the WNBA). I wanted to know, do you think Tamika Whitmore and yourself are the best front court players in the East?
Jay, Queens, NY

Phillips: In order to succeed in this league and to succeed at this level, you have to have faith in your own ability. You really have to have more faith than Mt. Rushmore as grandiose as that is, all the way to the highest peak of the mountain. You have to have that faith and reassurance and just know that you really believe in yourself. If you do that, then you'll go out there and play well. I think Tamika and I are very strong down low, yes.

Q: tari, how do you hit so many turnaround jumpers?? what do you look at when you catch sight of the basket??? p.s. where does your name, Tari, come from?
Jersey Girl

Phillips: Once I get the ball, I try to see where my opponent is in relationship to the basket. I feel like I'm blessed with quick feet and quickness in my actions. As I turn around, my oppenent is maybe looking for me to do something else and when I catch a glimpse of the basket I only need a second before I shoot. I see where the end of the backboard is and the rim, I focus in on that, square up, and try to follow through.

I know that the name Tari has royalty to it, it comes from royalty. I've been told that. I actually think that my mom got it from an old TV show called Doc Tari, and I know that it means "dance" in Malaysia!
