ASK THE ALL-STARS
Rita Takes Your Questions
How does it feel to play with some of the best players in the WNBA? Also, who will you look forward to either playing against or playing with?
Williams: I'm happy about being here obviously. It's my first time and I'm really excited. I'm going to enjoy all the festivities. You play with a lot of players a lot of the time, but just to have everyone on the court at once is a good feeling. There's not one player in particular that I'm excited to play with. They're all talented.
Good luck in the All-Star Game, Rita. Being the leading scorer on your team do you feel any added pressure on you? Do you feel your game has been noticed since they picked you to play in the All-Star Game?
Williams: It comes with a little pressure because you have to perform every night and your team is looking to you for points and leadership. I'm willing to accept and take on that challenge. I'm excited that the coaches selected me to play in the game and I'm really happy. I'm going to enjoy it like it's my last time here and I don't know if I'm ever going to get this honor again, so I'll be sure to have a good time.
What do you do in your free time except ballin'?
Williams: I watch television, I'm a TV junkie. I watch it all the time. My favorite shows are Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I love to watch movies, but not scary ones. I talk on the phone, hang out with my friends. That's about it.
Will being an All-Star change your point of view on the game? Do you think you will have more confidence when you go out on the floor?
Williams: Definitely. I think when you're selected as an All-Star it says something about your game. Now that I have that status behind me this year I definitely want to go out there and show why they picked me.
Hi Rita! I just wanted to know what was the best part of your playing time at the University of Connecticut. You're a great player - good luck in the All-Star Game!
Williams: Oh man, everything! My teammates, my coaches. That's what I miss most about it. Not just the game of basketball, but being around that family atmosphere that we had at UConn. Coach Auriemma actually called me today from the Czech Republic and congratulated me. He said he'd wished he could be here, but he's coaching for USA Basketball at the World Junior Championships. He called me so it's all right.
What has your biggest goal been since you started playing basketball and have you accomplished it?
Williams: This is one of my goals, to make the All-Star team. I just want to become better every time I step on the court, whether it's in practice or in a game or each year, I just want to be able to bring something more each time.
You are doing great. What do you think the Fever must do or what do they need to be a playoff team? Congratulations on a great season.
Williams: We just need to stay consistent in what we do, stay focused and keep continuing to play hard and the tables will turn eventually.
